The Holy Bible is the greatest weapon man can ever own for himself/herself. (According to): Hebrews 4:12“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
Lesson 2Essentials to the Journey
THE BIBLE: DISCOVERING THE TRUTH
Does God still speak to man even in our present day? If yes, in what ways? Why is it that many people who say they believe in God are still lost? What is the connection of the Bible to our everyday life?

According to Deuteronomy 5:24 –  ” And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.”God does talk with man, and he lives. In 2 Peter 1:20-21 – “20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.  These verses of Scripture clearly state that through the Bible God speaks with man even today. However, many people who claim to be Christians are still lost because of the lack of knowledge of the Word of God. According to Hosea 4:6 – “6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children”.

What is the Bible?
  • The power of God unto salvation to every one that believes – (Romans 1:16) – “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek”.
  • Our most effective weapon against sin. (Hebrews 4:12) – “12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
  • Light and lamp to guide our life. (Psalm 119:105) – “105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”.
  • Food and nourishment to our soul and spirit. (Isaiah 55:1-3) – “1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price”,  (Matthew 4:4) – “4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”.
  • Mirror that reflects our own attitudes. (2 Corinthians 3:18) – “18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord”.  (James 1:25) – “25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”.
  • Cleanses our hearts by teaching us to reject the things that cause us to be defiled in the sight of God.        (Ephesians 5:26) – “26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word). (Psalm 119:11) – “11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”.  (John 15:3) – “3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”.

Why should we study the Bible diligently?

  • To have assurance of eternal life. ( John 5:39) – “39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me”.
  • To know the truth and have true freedom. (John 8:31-32) – “1 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.
  • To obtain good success. (Joshua 1:8) – “8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.

What is the right way to use the Bible?

  • Do not add or take away from what is written. (Revelation 22:18-19) – “18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book”.

Who should teach the Bible?

  • Children of God who have studied the Word of God diligently and faithfully living a life according to the teachings contained in the Holy Bible. (2 Timothy 2:15) – “15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.  (2 Timothy 2:2) – “2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”.
  • Those that have been anointed and chosen by God. (John 15:16) – “16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you”.
  • Those that are filled with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:8) – “8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.

In Ephesians 4:11-12 -“God gave His people apostles, prophets, evangelists, teachers and pastors for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. God is a God of order”. (1 Corinthians 14:33) – ” For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”,  (Romans 10:14-15) – “14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

God calls and sends people to proclaim and preach His Word according to His will and purpose. Those that teach the Bible should have studied and practice living the teachings of the apostles and the prophets and have been ordained by the elders of the church through the laying on of hands.

(Ephesians 2:19-21) – “19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord”.

(1 Timothy 4:14) – “14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery”.

How can we be sure that what is being preached or taught is the truth?

We can be assured of the truth if what is taught and preached is according to the teachings and doctrine of the Prophets and the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(Galatians 1:8-12) – “8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any manpreach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.  10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 1 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ”.

When is the Bible effective?

Forever. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”  (Matthew 24:35) – “35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”.

Is everything written in the Bible true?

100% of what was written in the Bible is true. God is not a man that He should lie. (Numbers 23:19} – “19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? “,

(Isaiah 55:11)11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

(2 Peter 1:18-21) -“18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”
